Introducing an outrageous new age of Outrage

EDGEWATER, Fla., July 22, 2008 -- Boston Whaler® is introducing three innovative new boats for 2009 in its popular Outrage® line. First introduced in 1970, Boston Whaler's Outrage family is known for some of the most capable center console offshore fishing boats on the water. The family is composed of six boats from 19 to 32 feet, now including the new 220, 250 and 280 models. These aren't merely upgraded or upsized models -- they've been thoroughly redesigned from the hull up for superior performance, fishability and comfort, and with a host of useful features. These Outrages are bigger and better than ever, with wide beams for tremendous spaciousness and superior layout for more storage and comfort, while still delivering the Whaler legend: Unsinkability. In short, the ultimate fishing experience.

At 22 feet, 5 inches, the new 220 model is small enough to trailer, but fast and tough enough to bring big water down to size. Once it’s on the water, it’s a powerhouse. With an all-new running surface and Mercury® outboard choices ranging from the standard 225-hp engine to an optional 300-hp VeradoTM, the 220 delivers exceptional performance and a smooth, dry ride. As you’d expect from an Outrage, it’s full-featured from the start, and abundantly roomy. There’s a generous 26 inches of interior freeboard and enough space for ten people to head out to blue water. And from a choice of fishing packages to a comfort package and electronics packages, the long list of options and accessories means owners can rig the 220 any way they want.

The rugged new 250 and 280 models sport the sleek and purposeful lines of an Outrage, now punctuated by a new innovation. As the inventor of center console design, Whaler has invented it all over again with its exclusive integrated hardtop / windshield system, standard on the 280 and available as an option on the 250. This sturdy structure, reminiscent of a pilot house, encloses the console on three sides to provide weather protection, with integrated frame legs for more space and snag-free boating. It features a beautiful, custom powder-coated frame, bonded glass and no exposed fasteners for a clean appearance. Of course, these are full-bore fishing machines, teeming with features like a deluxe bait prep center, tackle storage and new, optional fold-down trolling seats. As you’d imagine, the list of notable options and accessories goes on and on.

“Outrages have been special from the start,” according to Ron Berman, Whaler’s vice president of product development and engineering. “In 1970, when one of our vendors saw the banana-shaped hull and external vertical ribs of the first prototype, he shouted, ‘That’s Outrageous!’ The name stuck, and Outrages have set the standard for offshore center consoles ever since. With these
innovative new models, I think we’ve raised the bar a lot higher.”
